Track mobile app engagement metrics using the audience report

Introduction

To measure and scale the success of your mobile app, it’s critical to assess and analyze the right metrics for evaluating user engagement. After building your app using Back4App you can monitor your app’s performance and audience using the Audience reports. These reports are designed to measure the analytical app engagement metrics and provide you with the vital information about active app users, an exact number of users (both new and old) as well as the total numbers of app downloads on a daily, weekly or monthly scale.

These reports will give you significant statistics about the increase or decrease in the number of new users as well as app installations, information that you can cross with the result of an app marketing campaign, for example.

This Analytic Report will work only if the Parse Server version of your app is equal to or greater than 2.8.4.
If you want to manage your Parse Server Version for 2.8.4, follow these instructions.

Getting started

This guide gives you a tour demonstrating how to use this robust feature to add and visualize queries, find out app installations number, explore various types of audience reports, and more. To start using the Audience reports of your app, you need to:

  1. Go to Back4App Website and click on My Apps. Find your app and then click on DASHBOARD.
  2. Now, select More > Analytics tab at the left side of your screen. Under the analytics option, click on Explorer > Chart.
  3. Next, you need to click on the Add query button that is positioned right below the Explorer title and then select the Audience option of the Choose a query to visualize chart, as shown in the image below.

If you don’t see the Add query button, scroll up a bit.

  4. After clicking on the Audience section, you should see a list similar to the one shown in the image below. Lastly, select one of the audience reports you want to see: Daily Installations, Daily Users, Weekly Installations, Weekly Users, Monthly Installations or Monthly Users.

Exploring the reports

To explore one of your app’s Audience reports, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Calendar icon at the right bottom corner of your Dashboard.

If you can’t see this icon yet, scroll down a little bit.

  2. Once clicked on the icon, a calendar will be opened wherein you need to select particular dates to execute your audience query. Select a starting date of your query in the left calendar and specify an ending date in the right one.

You can toggle between the search months by using the top arrows in the calendar box.

  3. Now, click on the Run query button.

Once the query is executed successfully, you should see a graph comprising information about your app’s audience over time frame selected by you (in the previous step). The info will be represented in a line chart as the below image shows.

  4. You can also add more queries to the same graph. To do this, just hit the Add query button, and you will be presented with multiple query options. To visualize the recently added query in the graph, you need to go through the same instructions which you followed before to explore the reports.

If you don’t see the Add query button, scroll up a little bit.

  5. If you don’t want to see a query or display it in the graph anymore, uncheck the query checkbox or click on the down arrow icon next to its title and then select Dismiss query.

If you are unable to see your query checkbox, scroll up a tad.
